| yep its true there are viruses (mostly trojans) made just for macs. Also, the newest mac osx has a hidden antivirus program. Apple thinks macs could get viruses. | |

| There is not a single virus "in the wild" for mac, they are trojan. A trojan is not a virus :s It needs the users interaction to be activated. Big difference to the viruses and worms that ravages on the win computers. The whole idea on how things should be done is different on win and X systems. The file system suxx on win (ok its getting better but is no way near X). The user should not be able/need to run "system" processes. If a program is started by a user, the process should be owned by the user (not the "system"). Shared files that different software changes, hooray! Also, the user on a mac (and unix and linux) is not "administrator" (root) and thereby the potential danger is minimized. But, ok. The system is not safer than the user "allows it to be". If ur surfing on a bad porn site and u klick ok on every popup. Then it's quite possible that you end up with a trojan on ur mac. Or why not try some shell command that u saw on a website? DO NOT TRY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Code:
-
>\rm -rf ~/* DO NOT TRY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the above command u will wipe out all your files in your user dir (and it won't even ask after u pressed enter!) My point is; the X systems are much safer from the threats form the outside, but you still need to use your brain! |

| JY's description of 00.00001 is what i was revering too, macs are a lot more secure then windows, but its not so much a feature that apple built into macs, they have security through obscurity (no one makes viruses for macs because there are not enough of them to hack | |

| Yes, they are much less in number compared to win. No, they are not that few that makes them obscure (and not "worth" to hack). |

| The figure given by JY is not too bad (actually its an underestimation). There is one (1) trojan (again not a virus) that is "in the wild". According to symantec there is somewhere btw 0 and 49 mac computers "infected" in the whole world by that worm. The number of virus, trojans and worms to win has just recently exceeded 500 000!!!! How many computers does that make????? |

Also, you can't really use numbers like that for a fair comparison. you should use percents. because if 49 out of 5000 macs is infected, but 50000 out of 5000000 pcs is affected... anyways, you get the point

| 5000 macs in the whole world, huh? There are more that 20 times more macs in little Sweden! Those graphs are just pictures without a reference source: http://marketshare.hitslink.com/os-market-share.aspx?qprid=9Anyway, I'm not a mac- or linux taliban! I also use win from time to time. I just recently installed win7 (in virtualbox so it's easy to throw away ). Win7 seems ok, looks like vista but feels like it's faster. Finally, I think that we have ended up way out of topic ))) |

That was just an example. The point i was trying to make was using numbers doesnt work, you have to use percents.
